Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case Updates: Several women held protests in many areas of Kolkata on Wednesday night to express solidarity against the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor in a city hospital. A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) along with forensic scientists and medical experts visited Kolkata on Wednesday for an investigation into the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old PG trainee doctor in RG Kar MCH. Calcutta High Court on Tuesday, had ordered the CBI to take over the probe.
The CBI team, after arriving in Kolkata, took custody of the accused, Sanjay Roy. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said that CBI will solve the case by Sunday.
Meanwhile, protests and strikes continued on Wednesday against the killing with the AIIMS community reaffirming their demand for the implementation of the Central Protection ACT.
AIIMS resident doctors including foreign national and sponsored candidates, fellows and undergraduates would continue their strike, including the suspension of academic activities, elective OPDs, ward, and OT services. However, emergency services, ICUs, emergency procedures and emergency OT will remain operational, RDA AIIMS, New Delhi said in a statement.
Students of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur also took out a rally Tuesday night against the rape and murder of the woman PG trainee doctor in RG Kar Medical College.
