
Pedestrian killed, child injured in Gqeberha crash outside school
A pedestrian was killed and a nine-year-old boy injured when a vehicle overturned and crashed through a school fence in Zwide, Gqeberha.

Chaos unfolded earlier this morning, 17 April 2025, after a man was killed and a child injured when a motorist lost control of his vehicle. The driver hit a pedestrian before ploughing into a school fence in Zwide, a township in Gqeberha.
HOW WAS THE PEDESTRIAN HIT?
The accident occurred around 6:50 am at the intersection of the R75 and Johnson Road, near Khwezi Lomso Comprehensive School in Zwide, Gqeberha. A nine-year-old boy and the driver of the vehicle also sustained minor injuries.
According to police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, a maroon Renault Kwid was travelling from KwaDwesi towards Algoa Park when the driver lost control. The vehicle overturned, struck a pedestrian, and crashed through the school fence. The pedestrian, described as a man aged between 55 and 60, died on the scene.
THE IDENTITY OF THE PEDESTRIAN?
“The pedestrian is aged between 55 and 60, was wearing blue overall pants, a blue shirt and a khaki jacket, with black safety boots,” Janse van Rensburg said.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed. A case of culpable homicide has been opened and is under investigation.
SAPS in Kwazakele urged anyone who can help in identifying the deceased to come forward.
