This is genuinely a sad state of affairs, as this was once the best site of it's kind (at least that I had found) and there is still a lot to like. When my stories started disappearing I lost the motivation to write for a while, and then decided I could live with 16 and rewrote one of my stories accordingly. I gave myself a pat on the back when I posted it and felt the interest in tapping away late at night returning, to receive a message from a well-meaning reader to advise the rules had changed again, now to 18, and my reposted story was likely to be pulled again.

Rather than protest and complain (as others have without success) I too will continue writing but post on another site that doesn't impose ludicrous restrictions, but before I go I would like to acknowledge wantsomefun and ahorsewithnoname in particular, for their tireless efforts to make this a better place for writers and readers. There is no question they have invested huge amounts of time here, and for that they have my heartfelt thanks.

I would also acknowledge the forum post "Why I'm Leaving XNXX" from Daddycums. If I was asked to detail my reasons I couldn't express it better than he has.

I wish you all the best, and will check back from time to time in the fervent hope common sense prevails.

This is a perfect example of a sentiment I have previously expressed.

A writer taking their time to edit existing stories to conform to the 16 age rule, only to be slapped in the face and have it changed again to 18.

I can't say I blame BF666 for wanting to leave.

 

Imagine how it feels to have volunteered and reviewed...fucking REVIEWED over 2,000 stories...and then find out that the age limit was changed from 16 to 18, so that all your work was for absofuckinglutely nothing. It's enough to make you want to quit being a volunteer.

Oh. That's right. I did quit.

 

I'll freely admit I did one tenth the work ahorsewithnoname did, but it WAS a time-consuming process. My issues with the whole thing were

the retroactive nature of the enforcement of the age rule -- it's fine to set a limit and remove old stuff that exceeds it, but maybe not so fine to "criminalize" writers who posted when rules were not enforced.

the sudden change in the rule -- consistency makes it easier to understand, follow, and enforce a rule.

the whole hide-and-seek thing with the age rule -- how the fuck are writers supposed to know what's allowed? Why were they "innocent" when they posted under the clearly displayed 16 year age limit, and then "guilty" when the rule was changed -- and hidden?

I embrace the concept that this is a no-fee public website that exists because of the financial investment of someone else -- the owner. He can make any rule he wants since he pays the bills.

But he needs to make up his mind about the rules and then display them for all to see. Not just on the forum, either. If there are rules for the sex stories site, they should be clearly stated there. There's no clearly displayed rule against stories about characters under age eighteen. There's no clearly displayed rule against posting Craigslist-style ads as story comments. There's no clearly displayed rule about anything.

That's stupid. It invites chaos.

I hope the owner is happy with the reaction he's getting from people.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but with the "Announcement" change now addressing the platform change. There is no mention of the 18 age limit anywhere

 

It's now been included in the main forum rules under the tab at the top left of the page: "5. You may not post any text featuring sexual character under 18 years old." It's an update of previous wording.



EDIT: This is the only thing about age that appears on the Sex Stories site -- "Don't post *SPAM**SPAM**SPAM**SPAM* stories ! We check all reports from users regularly and actions are taken: stories deleted, accounts banned etc..."

That notice is on the story submission page near the bottom of a list of instructions. It's the only reference to age in subject matter. Nowhere is the word "*SPAM**SPAM**SPAM**SPAM*" defined.

Interesting....

 

So I pulled out a handy dandy dictionary, and looked up "*SPAM**SPAM**SPAM**SPAM*". *SPAM**SPAM**SPAM**SPAM* itself is not a word. There are two examples. It says "of a child; relating to children: pedophile" and "relating to soil or soil types: pedogenic" so I guess if you write a story and you have soil in it, you are violating the rules.

So then I looked up child: a young human being below the age of puberty or below the legal age of majority. It went on to say a son or daughter of any age. An immature or irresponsible person (she's such a child!). A person who has little or no experience in a particular area (he's a child in financial areas). A person influenced by a specified environment (a child of the sixties). So it sounds like, using those definitions, that you cannot write a story that includes any family, because it could easily violate the son/daughter clause, so goodbye to the Incest theme. You cannot write about people who are influenced by any particular era, so, goodbye to historical fiction...that cuts out CAW winning stories "The Light" and "The White" by me. You cannot write about people with no experience in a particular area, so, that cuts out my other CAW winner, Best Little Whorehouse. How many of your stories, authors of XNXX, are rendered void by this interpretation?

So I looked up age of majority. The age when a person is considered a full adult, in most contexts either 18 or 21.

So maybe 21 will be the next limit.

So I looked up adult. A person who is fully grown or developed. Well, I always thought that we developed until we die.

So it sounds like the only stories that are truly legal are ones having to do with having sex with dead people.
